Thanks to their trade with the Carolina Panthers in 2023, the Chicago Bears have positioned themselves to acquire considerable talent in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. Holding both the No. 1 and No. 9 overall selections, they are set to secure USC quarterback Caleb Williams with their premier pick, and aim to bolster their roster further with another impactful addition at No. 9.

However, despite heading into the draft with a strong overall roster, the Bears recognize the importance of fine-tuning their lineup through strategic moves prior to the draft. Here are the top three adjustments they should consider:

3. Acquisition of a Rotational Pass Rusher:With over $22 million in available cap space, the Bears have room to maneuver, potentially bolstering their pass rush with an additional talent opposite Montez Sweat. While DeMarcus Walker offers reliability on early downs, adding a speed rusher for passing situations could enhance their defensive effectiveness.

Potential options such as Yannick Ngakoue, Bud Dupree, or Randy Gregory could provide valuable depth and impact as rotational players.

2. Trade Khalil Herbert for Draft Picks:Despite having limited picks in the upcoming draft, the Bears have capitalized on previous trades, notably acquiring Montez Sweat and Keenan Allen. However, they can still seek to increase their draft capital by trading running back Khalil Herbert to teams in need of backfield depth.

With D'Andre Swift as their primary back and promising rookie Roschon Johnson as a capable backup, Herbert becomes expendable, offering an opportunity to secure additional draft assets.

1. Signing a Veteran Quarterback:Following the departure of Justin Fields, the Bears lack an experienced quarterback to support Caleb Williams and provide depth in the event of injuries. While Tyson Bagnet served adequately in 2023, securing a veteran presence would offer stability and mentorship for Williams.

Options such as Brian Hoyer, Ryan Tannehill, Blaine Gabbert, or Carson Wentz could provide valuable leadership and support, ensuring the Bears have a reliable contingency plan at quarterback.

In addition to these roster adjustments, the Bears remain active in exploring potential trades and navigating the evolving landscape of NFL offseason maneuvers.
