The NFL Draft is nearly upon us, and the Chicago Bears have already made waves by trading the first pick in the draft to the Carolina Panthers. However, Ryan Poles and the Bears aren't done just yet! It's well-known that the Chicago Bears need to bolster their roster in the 2023 NFL draft, particularly in the trenches with defensive tackle, edge rusher, and offensive tackle positions.

Despite these needs, General Manager Ryan Poles has previously stated that the Bears won't let positional requirements dictate their choice, opting for the best available talent.

Albert Breer from MMQB is a highly respected insider in the field, and his reports on the Chicago Bears warrant extra attention due to his consistent accuracy. Here's what Breer has to say about who he thinks the Bears will select:

"Chicago Bears (via CAR): Paris Johnson Jr., OT, Ohio State. Deep down, I think Johnson will go higher than this (you might be able to flip-flop this pick with the Raiders' pick). But this, at least in my mind, would be the floor for Johnson, a high-character, tall, long 21-year-old who looks like he came off a left tackle assembly line. While he needs to get stronger, he's young and will have time to do it, and so the ceiling is really high. Skoronski would make sense, too. I've heard the Bears would be good with Carter. If he slips, I could see them taking him, and that is in part because, if an offensive lineman they like isn't there, my sense is they would look for a defensive lineman here."

There's growing speculation that Johnson might be taken before the ninth overall pick, which could force the Bears to change their plans. In such a scenario, Breer suggests another offensive lineman could be their choice. Otherwise, Poles might shift focus to the defensive line.

"Skoronski is another name that's come up here, and if both are gone, Poles could work to strengthen his defensive line."

If Johnson is the selection at ninth overall but isn't available, it wouldn't be surprising to see Poles consider trading back, particularly if there's a late surge in demand for quarterbacks that makes the No. 9 pick highly sought-after.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 310 pounds, Johnson could potentially be the first tackle drafted. He has previously mentioned the Bears as one of the three teams he'd like to play for, and joining Chicago would reunite him with his former college teammate, Justin Fields.
