The AFC team has disclosed plans to install a new turf at Paycor Stadium ahead of the upcoming 2024 season, opting to return to the FieldTurf surface they utilized from 2004 to 2011.
This decision positions them as the eighth NFL team to feature FieldTurf, joining the likes of the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, New York Jets, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks.
"In an ongoing effort to maintain Paycor Stadium at the highest standards, a new FieldTurf field will be installed as part of offseason stadium upgrades," the Bengals announced via their official website on Thursday.
"The selection process involved thorough review and consideration of major players in the artificial turf industry, collaboration with the NFL and its testing requirements, and input from stadium and football experts.
"Player safety and performance data guided the selection of a monofilament product, aligning with NFL recommendations."
The change received approval from Hamilton County Commissioners during a meeting on Thursday. It is included among the improvements suggested when funding was authorized during the winter.
"Hamilton County and the Bengals are dedicated to delivering a top-level playing surface for NFL games, and this step reaffirms that commitment," stated Paycor Stadium Managing Director Steve Johnson. "The field will be installed in time for the entire 2024 NFL season."
