In the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft the Chicago Bears selected James Daniels out of Iowa. When drafted Daniels' was credited for being a versatile interior lineman that could play both the guard and center positions.

James Daniels had an up and down career with the Bears as he and fellow teammate Cody Whitehair altered between the center and guard positions. Ultimately at the end of the 2021 season, the Bears new regime decided to not bring James Daniels back.

James Daniels signed a 3-year 26.5 million dollar deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the off-season. There was some confusion why the Bears would let Daniels walk at the age of 24, especially with such a respectable contract for a versatile interior lineman.

Over the weekend Daniels had his first in-game action as a Steeler and certainly is worth one to forget. Despite being on the field for only 10 snaps, Daniels' allowed 2 pressures and was also beat 2 other times by his defender.

Ryan Poles and company certainly may have been onto something and sensed some red flags that led to Daniels not being retained. This was only his first in-game action so far but it certainly was not the start the former second-round selection could have hoped for.
