Perhaps it was because I tracked the Chicago Bears game in real-time on Twitter (X) and engaged with fellow BGO analysts instead of catching it live, but my emotional pulse seemed different from the majority of Bears fans. I replayed the game over several days, thanks to my 15-year anniversary getaway. Surprisingly, my $300 monthly cable subscription and my $100 annual NFL+ subscription failed to deliver the live game. I'm seriously considering cutting ties with my cable.

Experiencing the game in segments, already aware of the final score, offered a fresh perspective. I was more analytical, less reactive. I'm no stranger to passionate outbursts during matches after all, I even have a "Rob's Rants" section on my Halas Huddle podcast. Although I missed this episode due to a 10-day overseas trip, my stand-in, who curiously shares my exact name, took up the mantle impressively.

But here's the crux: Regardless of our post-game sentiments, it's still just one game in the books. Recall last season when the Chicago Bears clinched a victory against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1? That team made it to the NFC Championship. After three weeks, the Bears were on a 2-1 streak. But fast forward, and they secured only one more win, concluding the season with a 3-14 record and nabbing the top spot in the 2023 NFL Draft. So while winning any game is vital, a Week 1 loss to the Packers isn't a catastrophe.

Consider another familiar case: The Detroit Lions, who wrapped up the previous year with a 9-8 record. Ever heard "It's not about the start, but the finish"? The Lions' 1-6 beginning to the season last year echoes this. The NFL landscape is unpredictable. Despite the Bears' dismal performance (which I'll delve into in upcoming articles - I have heaps to share after my hiatus), 16 games still remain for a potential turnaround. But the looming question is: can they pull it off? Currently, there's a cloud of uncertainties surrounding this team: Is Matt Eberflus the apt leader? Can Luke Getsy orchestrate a fluid offense? Is Justin Fields still hesitant with his anticipatory throws? Will the O-line expose Fields to injuries? And, will the Bears' defense plummet further compared to last season? As evident, there's a barrage of questions.

For the time being, it's crucial for us to remain composed and see how things unfold. With a plethora of games ahead, it's premature to hang up our fan hats for the season.
