Has Ryan Pace Made A Huge Salary Cap Mistake?
"Over the last year, Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace has been mostly looked at as a genius.The Bears turned it around after a couple years of failure under John Fox to becoming a playoff team under Matt Nagy. Many have pointed at Pace's key acquisitions as big reasons for the turn around and they've mostly been successful lately. However when you dig deeper into the numbers, it looks like the acquisitions might be too expensive. Sportrac compiled all NFL teams and how they've allocated their salary cap dollars to RB's, WR's and TE's, and the Bears are pretty high up on the list. The Bears actually rank third, which wouldn't be a bad thing if they had top tier talent like the Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns who rank first and second, however they don't.Allen Robinson, Trey Burton, Mike Davis, Taylor Gabriel will all will contribute this season, aren't exactly some of the games elite at their respected positions and don't really compare to names like Brandon Cooks, Robert Woods, Cooper Kuup, Todd Gurley, Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry or Kareem Hunt.
