What happened to Johnny Knox?
Am I the only one with a soft spot for Johnny Knox?
To this day, I wonder where his career would have gone. Drafted by the Bears in 2009 after a standout career at Abilene, Knox was an easy favorite among one of our weaker rosters. He earned a pro bowl spot his rookie year for a crazy 29 yards per return. In 2010 he averaged 19 yards per catch wich ranked among the top five in the NFL.
Alas, tragedy struck in 2011 as he collided with Seahawks defender Anthony Hargrove in week 15 resulting in a career-ending spinal injury. Knox attempted to come back in 2012 but his career was over. He formally retired in 2013 at the age of 26 and has since gone on to be a coaching intern for Lovie Smith and the Bucs in 2015. In 2018 he joined the coaching staff at Carmel High School alongside former Bears Nathan Vasher and Blake Annen. It's good to see Johnny up and about and that he is able to live a normal life after such a violent hit. Still, I will always wonder where his explosive career could have gone.
