Fifteen years ago, Brett Favre went through something similar to what Aaron Rodgers is experiencing now being traded from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets after a great time with the team. Favre knows the challenges his old teammate will face.

Favre believes Rodgers will do well in New York. In a text message to ESPN's Ed Werder, he said:

"Aaron will do great!!!! He'll handle the change smoothly. [He's a] very smart and quick-thinking person, on and off the field. In other words, he's not easily caught off guard."

"[He's] really good at helping others play their best. I'd rather not bet at all than bet against him."

On Monday, Rodgers was part of a big trade and was introduced at a press conference on Wednesday. Wearing a Jets sweatshirt, he took a physical, met with coaches, and spent time with owner Woody Johnson at the Jets' facility. Rodgers got the starting position in Green Bay in 2008 when Favre was traded to the Jets during training camp. Favre's first press conference happened in a small room inside the Cleveland Browns' stadium, as the Jets were in town for a preseason game.

Even though he didn't know the team, its players, and the offense well, Favre started strong with the Jets, getting an 8-3 record. But he hurt the biceps tendon in his throwing arm.

Near the end of the season, Favre had a hard time, and the Jets lost four of their last five games. They missed the playoffs, and coach Eric Mangini lost his job. Favre ended the season with 3,472 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions. He "retired" after the season but eventually joined the Minnesota Vikings.

The situations for Favre and Rodgers are very alike.
