The Chicago Bears face numerous possibilities in their quarterback situation, which, in turn, leaves their offensive coordinator position wide open. Will they opt for a young and emerging talent, or will they bring in an established veteran to work alongside either a rookie or Justin Fields?

Should the Chicago Bears consider hiring an experienced offensive coordinator?
While compelling arguments exist for both options, if the Chicago Bears decide to retain Matt Eberflus as their head coach, it might be wise to lean toward an experienced play-caller. The rationale behind this is that Eberflus has demonstrated greater proficiency as a defensive coordinator than as a head coach at this juncture.
Even Ryan Poles acknowledged that Eberflus has room for improvement in his role as a head coach. However, it's essential to recognize that this is only Eberflus's second year in such a position, and he transitioned abruptly from a CEO-type role to handling the defense.
Eberflus may still be involved with defensive play-calling, and with his focus primarily on that side of the ball, he might have less capacity for managing the overall game. Consequently, having an experienced offensive play-caller to handle critical in-game situations that he may have overlooked while engrossed in defensive matters becomes crucial. This is the reason why Luke Getsy was deemed unprepared for the job.
This consideration could lead the Bears to opt for a seasoned coordinator. Such a play-caller could effectively manage the pace of the game, and Eberflus would have confidence that they are in sync regarding game management, making timely decisions about controlling the clock or executing aggressive passing plays.
Some established names to watch for include Frank Reich, Jim Caldwell, Greg Roman, and Eric Bienemy. Some of these candidates might be enticed by the assistant head coach role, understanding that, in practice, they will oversee the offense while Eberflus manages the defense and assumes the role of head coach for press conferences and fostering team culture. This approach could be the most suitable path for a head coach like Eberflus.
