MASSIVE contract extension for Denzel Ward
Ian Rapoport reported that the Browns and CB Denzel Ward have agreed to a deal. He gets 5 years and $100.5M.
This now makes Ward the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history with $71.25M guaranteed. He will surpass by just a hair the contract that CB Jalen Ramsey is currently playing on. Ward was the fourth pick in the 2018 NFL Draft after a very productive college career at The Ohio State University.
This deal is completely enormous. Ward is only 24 and has shown tremendous potential. This just shows that when you have a great, young stud player entering his prime (aka Roquan Smith) you have to pay him the big bucks in order to keep him.
The Browns recently traded a haul of draft capital to obtain QB Deshaun Watson and they are now currently on the verge of trading former first overall pick Baker Mayfield.
Cleveland should be a premier team next season. They will have a great young quarterback, a top 5 offensive line, and two all-pro players on the defense in DE Myles Garrett and CB Denzel Ward.
