New England Patriots icon Rob Gronkowski has suggested that Baltimore Ravens standout Lamar Jackson could be a suitable quarterback for head coach Bill Belichick.

"I think he would be a good fit, in a way. At the same time, I don't think he would be a good fit. It kind of goes both ways," Gronkowski remarked about Jackson potentially joining the Patriots during an appearance on the "Up & Adams" show, as reported by Adam London of NESN. "I feel like Coach Belichick always kind of dreamed of a quarterback not just a pocket passer, but a Lamar Jackson-type. The one that can run the ball as well. I just feel like he likes those types of quarterbacks from all the times he talked about them in meetings and stuff when we were going against them."

Although the Patriots have been rumored not to pursue Jackson while he's on the non-exclusive franchise tag, recent speculation about Belichick "shopping" starter Mac Jones ahead of this year's draft raises questions about the team's intentions.

Currently, it appears Jones may have to compete with 2022 rookie Bailey Zappe for the starting quarterback role this summer. While Jackson would be an improvement over either option on paper, Gronkowski noted that the Patriots probably aren't willing to pay the amount needed to satisfy the one-time NFL MVP.

Jackson is reportedly seeking more than the $230 million in fully guaranteed money that Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson received last year. As of the Thursday before Easter, no team is believed to be meeting that asking price. "So therefore it's not a good fit off the bat because of that reason," Gronkowski added about Jackson's alleged salary demands. "So, I don't think that's going to go down at all."

Even if Belichick and the Patriots were to offer Jackson a substantial deal, it's important to remember that Baltimore has the right to match the offer or receive two first-round draft picks in exchange for his services.
