"The Chicago Bears have their new head coach in place with the quick hiring of Matt Nagy. The first big step for Nagy to take is to fill out his coaching staff, starting with naming his offensive and defensive coordinators. The Bears would love to retain Vic Fangio to run the defense, even though his contract has expired, and it is starting to look that might actually happen. One of the potential landing sports for Fangio was the Green Bay Packers, who parted ways with Dom Capers following the season. They also run a 3-4 scheme, so Fangio was believed to be a good fit up north. However, the Packers have named former Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine has their new defensive coordinator. The Bears seem to be a logical landing spot for the well-respected coach. Fangio already knows the roster, plus with Nagy at the helm he will be allowed to be the top defensive mind on the team and do as he pleases. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network feels that Fangio will indeed re-up with the Bears.
The next domino to fall: There is still work to be done, but the likelihood now is that new #Bears coach Matt Nagy keeps defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. The spots are filling up. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 10, 2018
