One game will be aired on ABC and the other one will be on ESPN. The interesting fact is that the two games will be played at the same time for a part of it. The NFL has always been against having two primetime games overlapping. Not anymore.
The plan would be for one game to start at 7 p.m. eastern time and then for the other game to start at 8 p.m. eastern time, which means there would be a roughly two-hour window where the two games would be airing at the same time.
It is fun to see the NFL innovating. I also think it is a good thing because the Sunday 1 pm time slot will be a little less crowded. As fun as it is to have 8 games at the same time, we could settle for 4-5 at 1 pm if it means we can watch more than one game on Monday Night.
It was also reported last night that Hall of Famer Troy Aikman is expected to leave Fox Sports to become the main analyst for ESPN's «Monday Night Football". His ESPN deal will be for a duration of five years, and his yearly salary is expected to either approach or exceed the neighbourhood of Tony Romo's $17.5 million per year contract with CBS. The deal is not yet final, but it is near completion.
