A statement issued by the team on Monday confirmed that city officials support the initiative and will participate in the upcoming announcement.
"The Chicago Bears, together with city officials and various stakeholders, will hold a press conference on Wednesday, April 24, to unveil their vision for a cutting-edge, publicly-owned enclosed stadium situated on the Museum Campus," the statement outlined. "The plans include adding more green spaces and recreational areas that are accessible to the lakefront for both families and fans."
The Bears have committed to investing $2 billion of private funds for the development. The estimated cost for the stadium ranges from $2.5 billion to $3 billion. An additional $1 billion has been designated for related road enhancements, space upgrades, and other infrastructure needs. According to Mayor Brandon Johnson, these funds will not result in new taxes.
Mayor Johnson emphasized the broader impact of such investments: "Building 21st-century stadiums requires activating the entire city of Chicago, and our discussions with the Bears have been very constructive," he stated. "I value the leadership of Kevin Warren. However, we have not agreed to any new revenue sources."
