Currently under two separate investigations, Rice might soon see resolution in the most recent case.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that following discussions with the Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, and Dallas Cowboys, Zay Jones is scheduled to visit the Chiefs next. Jones was let go by the Jacksonville Jaguars last month after a lackluster season where he managed only 34 receptions on 64 targets for 321 yards in nine games. Although he achieved personal bests in catches and receiving yards with the Jaguars in 2022, his second season did not meet expectations. His release came after Jacksonville signed Gabe Davis and selected Brian Thomas Jr. with the 23rd overall pick.
Preparing for a Potential Season Without Rashee Rice
Meanwhile, the Chiefs, who selected Xavier Worthy 28th overall after moving up in the draft, may still need additional support for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, especially if Rice is unavailable at the season's start.
In his debut season as a professional, Rice emerged as a leading receiver for the Super Bowl champions, recording 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023. However, his involvement in a March hit-and-run incident could lead to suspension.
The 24-year-old is also implicated in a separate case for allegedly assaulting a photographer at a nightclub. Although he might be exonerated as the conflict reportedly remained verbal, the situation is still developing.
With the recent addition of Marquise Brown since their Super Bowl victory in February, the Chiefs are looking at various strategies to maintain their competitive edge moving forward.
