So, after 3 seasons on the Bears, Fields was traded to the Steelers in exchange for a late-round draft pick, as the Bears are gearing up to start fresh and draft USC QB Caleb Williams with the 1st overall pick.
While talking to the media today, Bears GM Ryan Poles spoke about the trade and why the Fields era didn't work out:
As heard, Poles understood that it would take a while to get Fields' game to a top level, but came to the realization that it may take longer then expected due to the other players on the Bears. Also, Fields' rookie contract is soon expiring, and the Bears do not want to commit to a QB they aren't so sure of yet.
The Bears have been "cleaning up" this roster for some time and have not been able to provide the right players to bring the best out of Fields' game. They would rather start fresh (again) and try and provide the best talent for their new QB, along with restarting the salary.
