The Chicago Bears have officially scheduled a pre-draft visit with Dallas Turner, an outside linebacker from Alabama who has been hailed as the "clear No. 1 edge rusher" in the 2024 NFL draft class by ESPN's Mel Kiper.

In a recent interview with NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Turner disclosed that he has upcoming visits planned with several teams, including the Bears, who hold the No. 9 overall pick in the draft. Turner also mentioned scheduled visits with Atlanta (No. 8) and Minnesota (Nos. 11 and 23).

During the 2024 NFL Combine in late February, Turner spoke favorably about the possibility of joining the Bears, praising their defensive scheme under head coach Matt Eberflus and the opportunities it presents for pass rushers.

With Montez Sweat already on the roster, the Bears are in search of another starting pass rusher for the 2024 season. Despite most big-ticket free agents being off the market, the Bears may find their solution in the first round of the upcoming draft. However, the question remains as to which edge rusher will catch their eye and whether he will still be available at the ninth overall pick.

Turner possesses all the physical attributes necessary to excel as a pass rusher in the NFL, showcasing impressive speed, length, and explosiveness. His skill set aligns well with what Eberflus values in pass rushers.

While Turner could significantly elevate the Bears' pass rush, there are concerns about his effectiveness against the run. Despite his prowess as a pass rusher, Turner struggled at times to set the edge against the run, resulting in a lower run-stop rate compared to other top pass rushers in the class.

Additionally, there's uncertainty about whether Turner will still be available when the Bears are on the clock at No. 9, as he could potentially be the first defensive player off the board in the draft. If another team ahead of the Bears, such as the Falcons at No. 8, is sold on Turner, he may be off the board before the Bears have a chance to consider him.

In the event that Turner is not available, the Bears may explore other options with their No. 9 pick, such as targeting one of the top wide receivers in the class or addressing their offensive line needs. General Manager Ryan Poles could have multiple strategies in mind depending on how the draft unfolds, ultimately aiming to bolster the team's roster and support their new franchise quarterback.
