During last week's NFL owners meetings, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus addressed reporters, emphasizing the anticipation surrounding April, including both the draft and the commencement of the voluntary workout program on April 15.

Eberflus expressed his desire to establish a formidable defensive line, aiming for a dynamic duo with Montez Sweat.

Expanding on bolstering the defensive line, Eberflus highlighted two existing players: Gervon Dexter Sr. and Zacch Pickens, stressing the potential for significant improvement in their second year, a period known for substantial growth as players acclimate to the professional level.

Despite Dexter Sr. and Pickens showing promise with a combined three sacks in their rookie seasons, Eberflus indicated the Bears remain open-minded about enhancing the position, considering all possibilities.

Should prospects like Dallas Turner or Jared Verse become available at the ninth spot in the 2024 NFL draft, it would require several favorable circumstances, such as trades by other teams and specific selections, for the Bears to pass on such talent.

The potential selection of Notre Dame offensive lineman Joe Alt by one of the teams ahead could influence the remaining top-ten picks, possibly paving the way for the Bears to secure a coveted pass rusher.

With General Manager Ryan Poles likely to prioritize maximizing draft capital, trading down for additional picks appears probable. However, if a standout pass rusher remains within reach and Poles opts to retain the ninth spot, Eberflus's commitment to defensive prowess suggests he wouldn't let such an opportunity slip by easily. Indeed, as the adage goes, defense wins championships.
