Report: Three NFL Teams Emerging as "Significant Contenders" for Star RB Saquon Barkley in Free Agency
Three teams are poised as notable contenders in the Saquon Barkley sweepstakes as the 2024 NFL free agency approaches.
ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports that the Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, and Los Angeles Chargers are "believed to be serious suitors" for the 27-year-old running back:
"The Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, and Chicago Bears are believed to be serious suitors. The rival Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys have interest, but aren't expected to meet Barkley's price point. Nevertheless, they shouldn't be discounted entirely as they are, at least, involved in the running back market. The Ravens face uncertainty with both Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins, their top two running backs, becoming free agents. Similarly, the Chargers' primary RB, Austin Ekeler, is also pending free agency. While the Bears boast Khalil Herbert in the backfield, they possess ample cap space to pursue the 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year."
Despite being hampered by injuries, Saquon Barkley has showcased his offensive prowess in the NFL, surpassing 1,200 yards of offense on four occasions in his first three seasons. Despite sitting out three games in 2023, Barkley managed to compile 962 rushing yards, scoring six rushing touchdowns, and catching 41 passes for 280 receiving yards, adding four receiving touchdowns to his impressive stats.
