Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III has praised Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan for what he sees as a brilliant move in the acquisition of Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears.

Fields, a highly touted quarterback, was traded to the Steelers for a sixth-round pick in 2025, with the potential to upgrade to a fourth-round pick if Fields plays a significant number of snaps in 2024. This deal has been widely regarded as a steal for the Steelers, considering Fields' potential and the low cost of acquisition.

Griffin's colleague at ESPN, former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum, echoed similar sentiments, hailing the Fields trade as the best move of the offseason. Tannenbaum emphasized Fields' youth, talent, and character, suggesting that he could thrive under the guidance of Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

The trade for Fields follows Khan's successful negotiation with the Bears, which saw wide receiver Chase Claypool acquired in exchange for a second-round pick. Claypool's tenure with the Bears was short-lived, as he was subsequently traded to the Miami Dolphins. However, the pick acquired in that trade was used to select cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who had an impressive rookie season.

Fields' addition to the Steelers brings a new dynamic to their quarterback room, with his athleticism and playmaking ability offering a different dimension to the offense. While Russell Wilson is expected to start, Fields provides an intriguing option for the Steelers, particularly with his proficiency in rushing yards, which has been unmatched by any other quarterback since 2022.

ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky believes that the quarterback battle between Wilson and Fields will hinge on their ability to address their respective weaknesses, particularly in avoiding unnecessary sacks and negative plays. Orlovsky highlights Fields' youth as a factor that could work in his favor in terms of development and improvement.

Overall, the acquisition of Fields represents a significant move for the Steelers, offering them a promising talent with the potential to make a significant impact on the team's success in the upcoming season.
