Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson is poised to become one of the most sought-after free agents in the upcoming offseason, and it appears that financial considerations will be a significant factor in his decision-making process. Speaking at the Pro Bowl on Saturday, Johnson candidly shared with NFL.com that while his heart remains in Chicago, his focus is on securing a lucrative contract.

Johnson expressed, "My heart's definitely in Chicago, but my mind is definitely on the money. So, I mean, we'll see if we can find a way to make both align and reach a mutually beneficial agreement. I'm eager to see what the future holds."
During this season, Johnson's name briefly surfaced in trade discussions leading up to the NFL trade deadline, but the Bears ultimately retained him. He went on to have an outstanding year, accumulating 36 total tackles, defending 10 passes, and securing four interceptions in 14 games. His remarkable performance earned him second-team All-Pro honors and a spot in the Pro Bowl.
The emphasis on money is understandable given that this may be his prime opportunity to secure a lucrative contract. Not only did he have a standout season, but he also plays a premium position and is still in the early stages of his career, set to turn 25 at the start of the next season. This positions him for several elite years ahead with his future team.
Bears' General Manager Ryan Poles has expressed his intention to retain Johnson in Chicago for the next season, suggesting that the franchise tag could come into play.
Despite finishing the season with the defense ranking 20th in points allowed and 12th in yards allowed, the Bears significantly improved in the latter half of the season after acquiring Montez Sweat from Washington. Additionally, the Bears enter the offseason with nearly $50 million in salary cap space, placing them among the top 10 teams in the NFL in terms of financial flexibility. This not only allows for the possibility of retaining Johnson but also for strengthening the roster further.
