Last season saw the Chicago Bears struggling with one of the least effective passing games in the NFL, limping along at a mere average of 130.5 yards per game - a sharp decline from 2021's already modest 188.6 yards per game. With their passing game ranked third-lowest that year, improvement became paramount.

Justin Fields, despite an impressive breakout season, shone mainly due to his ability to scramble, racking up over 1,000 yards through running. For the forthcoming season, fans and analysts alike have their eyes trained on Field's passing stats, eager for an upward trend. Thankfully, the Bears' management has equipped Fields with a capable crew to enhance his throwing game.
A new addition to the Bears, Chase Claypool, has raised a few eyebrows. His initial stint, though spanning just seven games, yielded only 14 receptions and 140 receiving yards without any touchdowns - not the most promising start. Nevertheless, optimism abounds as many hope that a complete offseason to familiarize with the playbook and form stronger bonds with Fields will elevate Claypool to his customary 800-plus receiving yards annually.
Contrary to popular assumption, the Bears did not only trade back after concluding last season with the first overall pick for more picks but they also managed to secure a top-20 wideout, D.J. Moore. This versatile player is touted as the perfect accompaniment to Fields, given his track record as a high-volume intermediate pass catcher. It appears to be a win-win situation, with Moore, who's had a revolving door of QBs throwing to him, finally having a stable option in Fields. Their combined prowess has already been noted in the mini-camp, hinting at a 1,000-yard season for Moore, if not his all-time best.
Darnell Mooney and Tyler Scott form another dynamic duo for the Bears. Despite Mooney's recent sub-par season, marred by injury, his rapport with Fields from their rookie year promises a robust recovery. The two are now well-versed in Luke Getsy's offensive strategy and are expected to bring back the sparkle of Fields' initial season.
Scott, resembling Mooney in his style of play, can be positioned outside to outrun defenders or used as a slot receiver for swift passes. A perfect fit for a fledgling NFL player, Scott's time on the field will be invaluable for his growth. The key for this season with Scott is getting the ball to him and letting him work his magic.
The Bears haven't neglected their offensive line amidst these strategic upgrades. The incorporation of Nate Davis and Darnell Wright should provide Fields with more breathing room. And if Braxton Jones and Teven Jenkins can maintain their upward trajectory, this offensive line will be a far cry from the one responsible for the highest number of sacks this season.
Thus, as we anticipate the new season, it's clear that the Bears are primed for a formidable passing game, with Fields leading a rejuvenated offense. The proof, as always, will be in the passing.
