As the preseason draws near, the Bears have returned to Soldier Field for their practice session, known as Family Fest. Here are the highlights from the training camp on Saturday and Sunday, August 5-6.
First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to Bears legend Steve McMichael, his wife Misty, and their family. McMichael is battling ALS and faced a setback this week. Many believe he deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame, and it would be wonderful to see him recognized for his contributions to the game.
Despite the setback, there is some optimism as Misty shared that Steve is improving. He is still in the ICU receiving treatment for an infection and fluid in his lungs. Misty said, "He's as feisty as ever. Our Mongo is back! Please keep the prayers coming."
On the field, ESPN analyst Steven A. Smith has expressed skepticism about Justin Fields' goal of throwing for 4,000 yards this season. While Fields has the talent, achieving such a feat would require significant improvement and staying healthy throughout the season.
Fields, however, continues to impress with his skills and his fun-loving nature. He initiated a water balloon fight with his teammates during practice. Wide receiver Velus Jones had a standout throw, hitting cornerback Kyler Gordon mid-air while doing a flip. Even the running backs joined the fun, with D'Onta Foreman targeting Roschon Johnson.
In the midst of the action, the Bears added a veteran presence to their tight end group by signing the 39-year-old former Packer, Marcedes Lewis. Nicknamed "Big Dog," Lewis is excited about the team's culture under the leadership of Ryan Poles.
The Bears are gearing up for an exciting season, and Family Fest provided a glimpse of the camaraderie and spirit within the team. Let's keep supporting them as they prepare for the upcoming challenges.
