On Saturday in Indianapolis, Darnell Mooney observed from the sidelines with a headset, witnessing undrafted rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent's masterful drive against the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

With the absence of Justin Fields, Bagent served as the backup to P.J. Walker. Taking over in the second quarter at the Bears' 8-yard line, Bagent showcased his prowess. He brilliantly orchestrated a 92-yard journey over 17 plays, culminating in a 2-yard touchdown scramble. Completing 7 of 8 attempts for 61 yards on that drive, Bagent ended the game with an impressive 9-for-10 for 76 yards.

Mooney, sidelined with the primary starters, expressed admiration for Bagent's commanding display against the Colts. "It was a sight to behold," Mooney remarked at Halas Hall on Tuesday. "He was composed and dynamic. He decisively executed every play and knew precisely what he intended to accomplish. With my headset, I was in tune with each play call. Watching him in action, especially at his caliber, was genuinely exhilarating."

After the game, Bears' head coach Matt Eberflus extolled Bagent's performance and hinted at a competitive race for the backup quarterback slot. "Bagent displayed remarkable poise. His throws were on point, and his decisions were impeccable," Eberflus commented.

Joining the Bears post-draft in May, Bagent quickly endeared himself to coaches, showcasing his diligence in mastering offensive coordinator Luke Getsy's playbook and footwork nuances. As roster decisions approach, Bagent aims to convince the coaching team of his reliability.

"I desire the team to have utmost confidence in me," Bagent said about possibly securing the backup position. "I want them to be assured that I am familiar with every play. While perfection isn't always attainable, I ensure I know the intricacies of every play. I constantly prepare, knowing chances will arise."

Bagent's stellar performance against the Colts' defense garnered admiration from his teammates, though they weren't necessarily taken aback.

Running back Roschon Johnson post-game remarked, "He's unflappable. Despite hailing from a smaller institution, his gameplay speaks otherwise. He's a team favorite due to his steady demeanor."

Echoing similar sentiments, rookie defensive tackle Zacch Pickens said, "Bagent is all about dedication. He's relentless in his approach."

While Bagent's impressive outing in Indianapolis was evident, he needs to maintain this momentum in the preseason's climax to secure a spot on the primary roster.
