The Bears have long believed that enhancing their defensive line's pressure would bolster their secondary. The theory was simple: increased pressure leads to better coverage. But the pressure remained elusive.

However, times seem to be changing. The secondary is reaping the benefits as Coach Matt Eberflus employs blitz tactics more aggressively.

"Our defense is dynamic, blending different approaches based on our opponents," explained safety Jaquan Brisker, the team's top sack artist from the previous season. "Sometimes we prioritize zones, sometimes we blitz, and other times we rely on man-to-man coverage."

Sportradar statistics indicate that the Bears have now executed a total of 51 blitzes, equivalent to 18.5% of their defensive plays, placing them 22nd in the league. Although this hasn't necessarily translated to sacks, it has indeed rattled quarterbacks, with 19 post-pass groundings at a rate of 9.1%. Their hurry percentage stands at 6.5%, ranking 22nd. While they still linger at 30th in the league with nine sacks, the intensified pressure is evident.

Yet, Pro Football Focus suggests there's room for improvement, especially among edge rushers. Apart from DeMarcus Walker, most haven't met the expected standards. Specifically, Yannick Ngakoue and Dominique Robinson rank alarmingly low in their respective positions.

But last week demonstrated potential, with the Bears achieving their season's best on third downs.

Safeties coach Andre Curtis praised the team's recent performance, saying, "The players were dialed in, executing their roles perfectly, unsettling the quarterback with varied defensive looks. To maintain our momentum, we need to continue this strategic diversity."

Given that the Raiders have struggled offensively and are potentially fielding backup quarterbacks in Brian Hoyer or Aidan O'Connell, the Bears sense an opportunity.

Brisker elaborated on their preparations, saying, "We've dissected both QBs, understanding their playstyles and tendencies. We anticipate they'll start with quick, rhythm throws. Our job is to stay adaptive and disrupt whatever strategy they bring."

In essence, the Bears' defense aims to remain versatile, continually searching for the optimal strategy to intensify their pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
