The Chicago Bears roster, while ahead of schedule, still requires a critical addition on defense. The edge rusher position is in high demand and could be addressed in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, if the right fit isn't found, the Bears might consider signing a free agent to a short-term deal.

Kenneth Davis of the Under Center: Chicago Bears Podcast suggested such a move on Wednesday, April 5, during a mailbag segment about potential offseason pursuits.

"Jadeveon Clowney," Davis wrote. "Just having an athletic edge guy to set the edge against the run, and you know that if he gets his chance, he can get to the quarterback. He fills a lot of needs." Clowney, a highly experienced defender, could offer the Bears significant value and productivity.

The former No. 1 overall pick by the Houston Texans in 2014, Clowney will enter his 10th NFL season in 2023 at age 30. The three-time Pro Bowler and one-time second-team All-Pro spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns on one-year contracts worth $8 million and $10 million, respectively.

In his first season with Cleveland, Clowney delivered nine sacks and 32 quarterback pressures in 14 games, according to Pro Football Reference. However, his 2022 performance dipped due to lingering injuries, limiting him to 10 games, two sacks, and 12 quarterback pressures.
