Bears Head Coach Reveals the Reasons Behind the Teams Decision to Release OL Alex Leatherwood, who is a former 1st-Rounder
As revealed by Bears reporter Courtney Cronin, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus spoke out about why things did not work out with OL Alex Leatherwood, which led for the team to release him:
As said in the tweet, Eberflus stated:
"As a head coach, as a GM, when we pick a guy or bring a guy, whether that might be acquire a guy, we're always very hopeful that it works out, and we're disappointed when it doesn't. It's really a part of everybody. It just wasn't in the cards for him and for us at this time. It's unfortunate and we're disappointed"
Eberflus just did not see the Bears working out for Leatherwood. Eberflus feels disappointed, but ultimately knew that this was the right thing to do.
Leatherwood was a first-round draft pick back in 2021 by the Raiders, and entered the league with high hopes of being a star. However, after struggling in his rookie year, the Raiders waived him.
When the Bears claimed Leatherwood off of the waivers last year, there was a sense of hope that things would work out differently, as the Bears have a different system then the Raiders. Unfortunately, the same thing occurred in Chicago, so the Bears are parting ways with Leatherwood.
