Cavanaugh holds two decades of NFL-level experience as an area scout and will be coming from Ohio State, where he held his most recent position as college scouting coordinator.
Not only do the Bears add a scout to the room with years of experience, but they get additional knowledge on Ohio State's star Wide Receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Smith-Njigba will be a Junior heading into the upcoming season and will be eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft if he declares. He will be heading into the upcoming season as one of the top receivers in College Football.
Despite having the Ohio State connection with current Bears QB Justin Fields, the two have very little history on the field.
In Fields' final season and Smith-Njigba's first season at Ohio State he only recorded 10 receptions for 49 yards and 1 receiving touchdown.
If the Bears were to look into Smith-Njigba to strengthen the receiving room in 2023 he is set to be an exceptional prospect.
