Sharpe actually missed the final two preseason games after leading the team with 44 yards during the preseason opener. The injury wasn't disclosed immediately and was continually labeled as day-to-day. However, after initially making the 53-man roster, he was placed on injured reserve early Wednesday, which, barring an injury settlement, will end his 2022 campaign. Eberflus has informed the media that Sharpe has been dealing with a rib injury, but it's unclear why it took so long for Chicago to put him on IR.
This put added pressure on the receiver corps considering Byron Pringle has not yet begun practicing due to a quad injury, and N'Keal Harry has a high ankle sprain that required surgery.
Sharpe was playing at a very high level since the start of training camp and especially during preseason. He made a few magnificent catches. This is very sad to see him losing out on what would have been his first real shot at a significant role in the NFL.
