Heading into the 2022 season the Bears have a dynamic backfield that's led by David Montgomery and second-year back, Khalil Herbert. Despite Montgomery being the consensus workhorse the past few seasons in Chicago, and many believing entering his contract season the Bears will lock him up for the imminent future, there has been a lot of buzz around Herbert.
Herbert was drafted by the Bears in 2021, and despite being in a crowded backfield with Montgomery and Damien Williams, Herbert found a way to log carries and make the most of his rookie campaign. Herbert's largest workload was down a four-game stretch mid-season when Montgomery went down. Over those four games, Herbert received 78 carries and put up 344 yards rushing.
Under the newly acquired offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, the offense is expected to thrive on an outside zone rushing scheme. Herbert is extremely elusive and flashed his vision already, along with sitting at 5'-9», Herbert is expected to thrive in any opportunity he will receive in the 2022 season.
