Undrafted in 2017, Tonyan was initially signed by the Detroit Lions but was unable to make their final roster. Later that year, he joined the Packers' practice squad as a rookie. Tonyan's hard work and perseverance paid off in 2018 when he made the Packers' regular-season roster, and he has been a significant contributor to the team ever since. Last season, he had 53 catches for 470 yards and two touchdowns.
There was speculation that Tonyan might sign with the New York Jets due to his excellent rapport with Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, he surprised many by joining the Bears, where he will be catching passes from Justin Fields for the 2023 season.
