"With a new Super Bowl champ crowned, the offseason has officially begun for every team around the league. While free agency only officially begins next month, we'll still see plenty of action before then. There's already been a couple of roster cuts around the league and the Chicago Bears might be looking to take advantage of one of them. The Bears will be meeting with cornerback David Amerson on Wednesday according to Ian Rapoport. Amerson was cut by the Oakland Raiders on Monday, right before his $5.5million guaranteed base salary for 2018 was set to kick in. A contract that was signed as recently as 2016, so it's kind of a surprising move by the Raiders. The 26 year old was handed the contract by the Raiders after a breakout season in 2015 which included 58 total tackles and four interceptions. He followed that up in 2016 with 64 total tackles and two interceptions, however he had a slew of health issues this year which only saw him play six games thanks to a concussion, shoulder injury and foot sprain. With Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara both set to become unrestricted free agents if the Bears don't re-sign them, Amerson could be the Bears best option. Various reports have the Bears uncertain about committing to Fuller with a long term contract for obvious reasons.
Free agent CB David Amerson, released yesterday by the #Raiders, is already garnering serious interest. He's visiting the #Bears tomorrow, source said. Other FA visits are scheduled. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 6, 2018
