As time goes on in the NFL, it's becoming more and more obvious that speed is the name of the game. In order to be truly dominant at any position besides quarterback, you need to be very explosive. Being fast is far from everything, however, it can make up for a lot of weaknesses. Just look at WR Tyreek Hill. He is not very fundamentally sound, he is a below-average catcher of the football and yet, he is still one of the 10 best wide receivers in the sport. This is clearly because of his speed.

Well, this is the same for a tight end. The Bears currently have a few veteran tight ends on the roster in Cole Kmet, Ryan Griffin and James O'Shaughnessy.

They also have a very interesting young "project" in TE Rysen John.

John, 24, spent last season on injured reserve due to an ankle injury. He arrived in the NFL by way of Vancouver Canada. John played college football as a wide receiver for Simon Fraser University, located in British Columbia. The SFU football program competes in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference of NCAA Division II. In his senior college season, John was selected to play in the 2020 Hula Bowl.

This guy is a physical specimen. In fact, he possesses an intriguing combination of size and speed. The 24-year-old stands at 6-foot-7 weigh 237 pounds and ran a 4.60 40-yard dash time at the 2020 NFL Combine.

This is so impressive. While he does not have the experience that other players have playing Div. 1 football in the US, he still has a very high ceiling as a player and he could potentially find his way into the roster or the practice squad, at least.

The Simon Fraser graduate was selected in the third round of the 2020 CFL draft. However, he went undrafted in the NFL draft that same year.

According to Bears writer Erik Lambert, he could become a George Kittle 2.0 due to the comparison in size and speed!

Of course, you need to take this with a grain of salt, but this just shows the crazy potential that John possesses.
