Bears Young Defensive Lineman Declares: 'I'm Aiming for a 10-Sack Season'
When the Chicago Bears drafted Dominique Robinson in the 5th round last year, there was a buzz of excitement surrounding the Miami of Ohio product. Fans believed he had significant untapped potential as a pass rusher, and with proper development, he could become a formidable sack artist.
Robinson's performance in the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, where he recorded 1.5 sacks, only fueled these expectations. However, nobody anticipated the slump that followed, with Robinson failing to register a single sack for the rest of the season. This downturn left fans disappointed and Robinson himself puzzled.
Discussing his struggles on The Good Athlete Podcast, Robinson said,
"That trial and error of 17 or 16 more games and not getting a sack at all? It was hard. It was like, 'What am I doing wrong?' It looked so easy in Game 1. Now 17 games later, I haven't made any jump of anything."
Robinson knew he had the talent to succeed but couldn't figure out why he was being shut down by opposing tackles week after week. He eventually came to a realization that took him by surprise.
"Here's another thing. I have a problem asking for help. I do. It got to a point where I was like, 'I'm gonna need help.' My thing was I can figure everything out on my own." He also shared his personal goals for the upcoming season with the Bears, stating that he aims to achieve a "10-sack season" during his fourth year in the league.
"I have big goals for myself," Robinson said on The Good Athlete Podcast. "I want to have a 10-sack season this year. I think I can do it, I've been working, I've been busting my butt this offseason, working out with different people, trying to learn the game. This is only my third year, technically, playing defensive end. This will be my third full season, I've only got a few seasons up under my belt. I know I'm athletic enough, I know I'm strong enough. Now it's just getting out there and seeing what works."
