While on "The Pat McAfee Show," former NFL GM, 2-time Super Bowl champ, and NFL analyst Michael Lombardi revealed that the Rams put Stafford on the trading block this offseason, but could not trade him away because of his $59 million deal:
Lombardi then explains what happened, and why he was not traded. He said that the $59 million bonus is stopping a trade from happening, as Stafford is NOT proving himself worthy of that much.
Stafford was drafted by the Lions as the first pick back in 2009. He spent most of his career in Detroit, until 2021, when he was traded to the Rams. This trade was a win for the Rams, as Stafford helped lead them to a Super Bowl win in 2022.
Now, the Rams are looking bad, and Stafford is apart of that. Injuries and age have not been kind, so it looks to be the end of the exciting Stafford playing days.
Stafford is overpaid, and teams do not want to get into a financial crises for him.
