According to reports from Ian Rapoport, James Palmer, and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Panthers have promoted Dan Morgan to the GM role. Morgan, aged 45, previously served as an assistant to the GM for the past three years and had a notable playing career with the Panthers from 2001 to 2007.
The decision to promote Morgan to GM comes after the Panthers dismissed head coach Frank Reich following a challenging 1-10 start to the season. Chris Tabor was elevated to the interim head coach position for the final six games, and general manager Scott Fitterer was also let go after a three-season tenure.
Morgan, originally drafted 11th overall by the Panthers in 2001, played a key role in the team's unexpected appearance in Super Bowl 38 during the 2003 season. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2004 and contributed to the Panthers' second NFC Championship Game appearance in the 2005 season.
Following his playing career, Morgan transitioned to the Seattle Seahawks' front office as a scouting intern, where he spent seven years. During his time with the Seahawks, the team achieved Super Bowl 48 championship success in 2013.
As the new general manager of the Panthers, Morgan's initial priority will be to select a new head coach for the team as they seek to rebound from a challenging two-win season that left them at the bottom of the NFL standings.
