BREAKING: San Francisco 49ers Dismiss Coach After Super Bowl Loss

The San Francisco 49ers have made a coaching change, with head coach Kyle Shanahan announcing the departure of defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported the news, stating that Shanahan confirmed Wilks' firing during a conference call on Wednesday afternoon. Shanahan cited the decision as a matter of fit, stating, "It just ended up being not the right fit."

This decision comes shortly after Shanahan previously indicated that all coaches would be returning, including Wilks, while defending the job Wilks had done throughout the season. Just a day prior, Shanahan had expressed his expectation that the coaching staff would remain intact, praising their contributions to the team's success despite falling short in Super Bowl LVIII.

However, circumstances have evidently shifted, leading to Wilks' dismissal after one season as the 49ers' defensive coordinator, succeeding DeMeco Ryans in the role.
