BREAKING: The Bears have signed a star linebacker!!!!
According to sources, linebacker T.J. Edwards, a free agent from the Philadelphia Eagles, has planned to join the Chicago Bears. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the news on Monday, revealing that Edwards and the Bears have agreed to a three-year contract worth $19.5 million, with $12 million of it guaranteed. ESPN's Courtney Cronin also confirmed the deal.
Edwards, who hails from Wisconsin, joined the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and has consistently surpassed expectations every year. In his four seasons with the team, he has made 159 tackles in 2022, ranking third in franchise history, just behind Byron Evans, who had 184 in 1989 and 175 in 1992. This performance placed Edwards at seventh place in the NFL last season. Edwards also added 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, and seven pass breakups while acting as the primary communicator for one of the league's top defenses.
Edwards, who is known for his ability to quickly diagnose and key from the second level as a stack linebacker, finished the season with clean lines to the ball and played to depth in zone coverage. In the league, he ranked seventh in solo tackles with 99.
In his 61 career games, including 47 starts, Edwards has recorded 389 tackles and 20 tackles for loss. This acquisition will be an excellent addition for the Bears, who are looking to strengthen their defense for the upcoming season.
