WIth the 2022 season upon us, and Chicago's chances of success pending the draft are up in the air. We are going to have to put a lot of trust into Fields and Getsy's rebuild first mentality this year.
With all that being said, Fields will most likely fare better than arguably the worst player in Bear's history, Cade McNown. After a fantastic career at UCLA McNown earned All-American in 1998 as a senior. The bears selected him as the 12th overall pick of the 1999 NFL Draft.
Beforehand the Bears had claimed that Erik Kramer would be the starter going forward but then waived him before signing McNown. After holding out in training camp he agreed to a $22 million contract and after Shane Matthews was injured McNown stepped in. Over his Bear's career, he lost his starting job over and over due to injuries or performance and eventually was traded to the Dolphins in 2001. He became the third-string QB for the Dolphins and saw no play that season.
The Dolphins tossed him to the 49ers, suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the preseason, and was placed on injured reserve. He then was released by the 49er»s in the 2003 offseason, and was acquired by the Calgary Stampeders but was never signed. As a fun fact in 1999 McNown was charged with illegal possession of a disabled parking pass at UCLA in 1996, he pleaded no contest along with other players including, Skip HIcks, Larry Atkins, Marques Anderson, and Brendon Ayanbadejo.
So, I mean hey, how bad can Fields do? With such small shoes to fill I am positive, we will have a better season this year. Bear Down.
Here's a clip of him doing what he does best.
And some career highlights.
