Head coach Matt Eberflus provided a brief update on Fields after the game, revealing that X-rays on Fields' right hand came back negative, indicating no bone fractures. Further evaluation is scheduled for Monday when Fields will undergo an MRI.
Eberflus remarked, "He wanted to come back in the game... He just couldn't grip the ball to throw it effectively."
Following two impressive performances, Fields' performance was limited to completing 6-of-10 passes for 58 yards with one interception in the game against the Vikings. He also faced significant pressure, being sacked four times.
In Fields' absence, undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent took over in the second half. Although he committed a couple of turnovers, Bagent managed to lead the Bears to their only touchdown of the day, a rushing score attributed to him. He also came close to engineering a comeback drive in the final minutes.
Should Fields be unable to play next Sunday against the Raiders, it is likely that Bagent would assume the starting role, with Nathan Peterman serving as his backup.
