Interestingly, an anonymous teammate appears to believe that Bagent has the potential to follow a similar trajectory as Brock Purdy, as reported by Adam Schefter. In fact, some of his teammates weren't taken aback by Bagent's impressive performance against the Raiders.
"It wasn't a surprise to anyone around the Bears to see Tyson Bagent play well during last Sunday's win over the Raiders. One Bears player predicted in training camp that Bagent would turn out to be the next Brock Purdy.' Bagent's second NFL start comes tonight vs. the Chargers."
Brock Purdy himself stepped into the role of the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback after both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo were sidelined due to injury. Purdy's outstanding performance ultimately led the coaching staff to designate him as the full-time starter.
Given Bagent's promising start to his NFL career, the comparison to Purdy holds some merit. However, the question arises: What does this mean for Justin Fields?
As of now, Fields is recovering from a dislocated thumb, and there have been rumors that he could return by Week 9. Nevertheless, if Tyson Bagent continues to excel in a primetime game against the Chargers, the Chicago Bears might contemplate keeping him in the starting lineup, even if Fields becomes available.
While this remains speculative at this point, it's a situation worth keeping an eye on.
