DJ Moore Advocates for Justin Fields as Future Bears QB, Surpasses Anticipated 2024 Draft Picks in Skill
Despite throwing two interceptions in the Bears' defeat to the Browns, dropping Chicago to a 5-9 record, wide receiver D.J. Moore is steadfast in his belief that Justin Fields is the right quarterback for the Bears' future.
"What's the doubt here?" Moore questioned reporters post-game when probed about Fields' standing with the team. "Why wouldn't he be the quarterback for the Chicago Bears at this moment?"
Currently, projections place the Bears with the first and fifth overall selections in the 2024 draft, with notable quarterback talents like USC's Caleb Williams and North Carolina's Drake Maye expected to enter the pool.
"Sure, you have these hot prospects on the horizon," Moore acknowledged. "A couple, right? But I'm not convinced they surpass Justin in ability."
Moore's inaugural season with the Bears has been impressive, as he's received passes from Fields and surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the fourth time in his career. However, it remains to be seen whether the Chicago management will concur with his evaluation of the potential 2024 class. Fields has shown brilliance, especially with his running game, over two seasons as the Bears' starting QB. Yet, his turnovers have eclipsed his number of games played, with an 8-26 record as the signal-caller for the Windy City.
Williams and Maye have been touted as potential top picks for the 2024 draft. It's worth noting that Ryan Poles, the current Bears general manager, was not involved in the decision to select Fields with the 11th pick in 2021.
