I have to confess, my time spent playing Madden NFL video games has taken a dip recently. The factors contributing to this trend include the steep price of the game, the need to upgrade my gaming console to fully appreciate the gaming experience, and the fact that playing as the Bears hasn't been particularly fun given the numerous uncertainties surrounding their quarterback, offensive line, and receivers.
Let's face it. Playing as your favorite team in a video game can be a downer when the key components of your offense are shrouded in doubts. But Madden '24 is about to hit the shelves, player ratings are being revealed, and after a long time, the Bears have an appealing receiver, at least from a video game rating perspective. That said, D.J. Moore's 86 rating isn't exactly thrilling the Bears' new primary receiver:
Despite his dissatisfaction, D.J. Moore's situation is far from dire. His 86 rating is the highest among the Bears' receivers, tying him for 21st among all NFL wideouts. Moreover, it's a solid seven-point increase compared to Darnell Mooney's rating this time last year when he was the Bears' top-rated Madden receiver. Mooney started with a rating of 79 in Madden '23. I've always believed that his score should've begun with an 8, but I'm ready to leave that debate in the past.
The last time the Bears had a receiver with Madden ratings in the 90s is a distant memory for me. But I'd love to see Moore change that narrative by becoming the next one. Interestingly, the Madden team doesn't seem to think Moore's rating will hover in the 80s for the entirety of the 2023 NFL season:
