Now with the ninth pick, the Bears might trade down again.
Ryan Poles likes top players. Will he stay at number nine and pick a great player, or will he trade for more players to fill the team's needs? We'll look at three players who might be available and interesting for trades. But the draft can be full of surprises. The Bears have made unexpected choices before, like Mitch Trubisky, Leonard Floyd, and Shea McClellin. Poles might be giving out false information to keep people guessing. Draft expert Matt Miller from ESPN thinks he knows who the Bears want: Lukas Van Ness, a defensive end from Iowa.
Van Ness finished his time at Iowa with 70 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks. He's very quick on the edge and good at pushing past offensive linemen. He's great at starting fast and getting into the neutral zone. His long arms let him rush the passer and put a lot of pressure on them. Van Ness is also strong in wide sets where he can use his speed to push through. At 6'5" and 272 pounds, he ran a 4.58-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
