Before we fully dive into the aftermath of Week 1, let's explore the foundational principles of the Chicago Bears head coach, Matt Eberflus. HITS embodies Hustle, Intensity, Takeaways, and (playing) Smart. Admittedly, it sounds quite spirited (recall Club Dub?), but how does that translate when the team barely shows up in Week 1 at home against a time-honored adversary? Note, I say "time-honored" because the dynamics of this rivalry have shifted. The Bears' 3-22 record against the Packers in the George McCaskey era speaks volumes, but that's a discussion for another day.

Where's the focus from Coach Flus when Chase Claypool seems distracted, missing a basic block for Darnell Mooney? What's the plan regarding Nate Davis, who has been notably absent during training but appears subpar during the game, leading to numerous pressures according to PFF? What's the strategy with a defense that's passive and doesn't capitalize on turnovers against an amateur quarterback? What's the narrative Coach Flus is setting for both an apprehensive offense and a lackluster defense?

Frankly, as we enter the second year of the Eberflus chapter, his impact remains unclear. He often seems like a background figure, lacking any memorable actions or statements. The essence of the HITS philosophy isn't translating to the field. Fans crave aggressive, passionate football, but the team's performance mirrors its coach's apparent tepid nature.

This game had the potential for a decisive turn. Both teams had their blunders but maintained hope. Dallas might have finally found a holistic team to rise to significant occasions. For New York, this could be the catalyst they need for a stable trajectory. And for numbers 9 and 82, this night marks a potential shift in their career narratives. It's a historical moment in the making.

When you look at other NFL head coaches, their contributions are evident. Names like Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, and Andy Reid instantly evoke their significant impacts. Mike Tomlin and Mike Vrabel embody the spirit of their respective teams. But what defines Coach Flus? If he's hailed as a defensive mastermind, it's not evident. If he's a charismatic leader, what exactly is the character he's imparting?

Coach Flus needs to drive passion into players like Chase Claypool, Nate Davis, Luke Getsy, and Alan Williams. If his team can't resonate with his philosophy wholeheartedly, he needs to find individuals who will. He must leverage the authority of his role, perhaps making tough decisions for those not aligning with the team's vision.

The initial season excitement seems to have faded post the opening game. The imminent Week 3 challenge against Kansas City doesn't help, especially with the imposing figure of Patrick Mahomes awaiting. If a win against Baker Mayfield and the Bucs eludes the Bears, a winless September looms. Coach Flus, the ball's in your court.
