Some people just couldn't see how hiring a defensive coordinator as head coach was good for Justin Fields' development.
However it might be the best thing, while Luke Getz might start getting job offers next year, having somebody focused on Fields other than the head coach is a good thing.
While former head coach Matt Nagy wanted Fields to play his system, Eberflus revealed they'll be building around Fields and not forcing him into a playbook.
"Building the offense around him and his strengths" Eberflus said "What does that look like? I don't know right now. We have to look at him. We have to evaluate him. We have to see where his skill set is. And then see his camera. How does he see the game? How fast does he process? How fast does he do things and how can we stretch him as we go?"
What kind of players will Eberflus be asking new GM Ryan Poles to add to help Fields?
"Explosive athletic ability is one of the traits we are looking for.
That equals chunk plays on offense and it equals stopping chunk plays on defense. If you want to score points, you have to get chunk plays and big plays. That's how you score."
What do you think of Eberflus' comments?
