Evaluating Jack Sanborn's chances of making the roster
One of the biggest contributors during the preseason game against the Chiefs this weekend was without a doubt LB Jack Sanborn. He played amazingly and it seems like he was everywhere on the field during the short time his name was called.
In fact, Sanborn earned the highest grade among 2022 undrafted free agents in the first week of preseason action.
Sanborn finished with four defensive tackles, an interception, and a pass breakup on only 26 snaps. Matt Eberflus' scheme is very famous for giving linebackers freedom to play fast with their reads, and Sanborn was doing just that against the Chiefs.
Here is what Bears senior writer Larry Mayer had to say on his chances to make the final 53-man roster:
I think undrafted rookie linebacker Jack Sanborn has an excellent chance to make the final roster as a special teams contributor and valuable backup on defense. He showed his playmaking ability in last Saturday's preseason opener, generating a pair of takeaways with an interception and fumble recovery and two special teams tackles. I expect the Lake Zurich High School product to get many more opportunities to prove himself in the final two preseason games, and I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he emerges as a top special teams player this season.
I agree. I think the Bears could definitely have something special with this undrafted free agent. We see every year a few players around the league being able to make a big impact from Day 1 even though they weren't drafted and I strongly believe Sanborn could be one of them.
