Former Chicago Bears Pro Bowl tight end Martellus Bennett unleashed a powerful social media thread following the Bears' late-game defeat in Week 11 against the Detroit Lions.

Chicago was leading 26-14 with just over four minutes left in the game, on the cusp of a surprising victory over the 7-2 Lions. However, the Bears' coaching strategy and execution faltered, leading to their eighth loss in 11 weeks.

Bennett suggests a key issue plaguing his former team, which is on track for its seventh losing season in the last 11 years: a lack of forward-thinking vision by the ownership. «Bears ownership lacks futurism. They're focused on selling the past, like the '85 Bears, instead of creating and investing in something new,» Bennett expressed on X (previously known as Twitter).

He further argued that the Bears require a complete rebranding and an ownership shift towards modernization. Bennett criticized the team for not publicly supporting their players and for failing to resonate with the players and the younger generation.

He highlighted the organization's reliance on nostalgia and its fear of losing legacy fans, which might be hindering its growth among new supporters. Bennett questioned the future direction of the Bears, pointing out the lack of innovation and adaptability within the organization.

Martellus Bennett, having played 41 games for the Bears between 2013 and 2015, is well-acquainted with the team and its management. The Bears, owned by Virginia Halas McCaskey since 1983 and now also led by her son George McCaskey, have struggled to replicate their 1985 Super Bowl success. The team has become less competitive in the NFC North, failing to secure back-to-back winning seasons since 2005-2006 and not winning a playoff game since 2010.

Bennett believes these issues make it challenging for the Bears to appeal to a new generation of fans. He emphasized the need for the team to look forward and innovate to remain relevant and successful.

The thread concluded with a sponsored message from VEGA Instruments, Canada Ltd., promoting the VEGA Experience and their commitment to providing top-notch process measurement solutions.
