As we all remember, back in the 2017 draft, the Bears used their 2nd overall pick on QB Mitchell Trubisky...and we all know how that played out.
Drafted a little bit after him, the Chiefs selected Patrick Mahomes, who is now considered to be the best QB in the NFL, and possibly of all time.
Since this draft, Bears fans and staff have immense regret with not picking Mahomes, and even after all this time, the team is still talking about it.
In a recent interview, former Bears director of player personnel; Josh Lucas, spoke about the 2017 draft, and explains how they thought they would have a chance to draft Mahomes, even if they don't select him with their 2nd pick. Watch the clip here:
As heard in the video, Lucas said:
So, it looks like the Bears truly did think about drafting him, but sadly, they went with Trubinksy, and then Mahomes was picked at number 10.
Since this draft, Mahomes has won 2 Super Bowls, been named Super Bowl MVP for both, is a 5-time Pro Bowler, 3-time All-Pro, 2-time NFL passing touchdowns leader, the 2022 passing yards leader, the 2018 Offensive Player of the Year, and a 2-time NFL MVP.
Oh...what could have been.
