Former Bears punter/tight end Bob Parsons passed away last Friday at the age of 72.

The Chicago Bears drafted Bob Parsons 117th overall in the fifth round of the 1972 NFL Draft. What they didn't expect was he would only score four touchdowns in his career at that position. Parsons would serve as the Bears' punter from 1972-1983.

Parsons spent his entire career with the Chicago Bears and the majority of it was as their punter. He averaged just under 39 yards per punt. In 1981, he punted 114 times for a monstrous 4,531 yards. Both of which were the most of his career.

Considering the Bears finished 6-10 and fifth in the NFC Central Division in 1981 with the 27th ranked offense in points scored, it makes sense why Parsons was so busy.

Parsons also played tight end, making 10 of 11 career starts at the position in 1975, when he caught 13 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown. He finished his career with 19 receptions for 231 yards and four TDs.

This Sunday, July 17, a memorial will be held at Davenport Family Funeral Homes and Crematory in Lake Zurich. More details can be found here.
